Street Art of D.C.

Our nation's capitol is made up of vibrant neighborhoods with eye-catching architecture and amazing street art that livens up alleyways, storefronts, and residential homes. The ever-changing murals, stickers, and tags that fill the city range from timeless works of art touching on themes like parenthood and identity to politically urgent messages of anger, solidarity, fear, and love. The here-today-gone-tomorrow nature of street art fascinates me, and I love that it is accessible to everyone - not guarded by doors and roped-off exhibits with soft lighting. As a newcomer to D.C., walking through neighborhoods to find the spots featured here was a fun way to get to know this colorful city. These photographs were taken during a time of intense political division, national uncertainty, and war abroad starting in 2025.
